Periodontal Treatment
We offer a variety of different treatments for mitigating and resolving gum disease issues depending on the stage of disease, how you may have responded to earlier treatments, and your overall oral health.
Treatments range from nonsurgical therapies that control bacterial growth to surgery to restore supportive tissues.
Prophylaxis (cleanings)
This type of treatment is appropriate for those who have not been diagnosed with gum disease or periodontitis. It involves removing bacteria in plaque and calculus (tartar) near the gum line to prevent gingivitis and the progression to gum disease.
Scaling and Root Planing
This treatment is appropriate for those who have been diagnosed with gum disease or periodontitis. Periodontal disease is an infection that affects the tissues and bone that support the teeth. Healthy gum tissue fits like a cuff around each tooth. When someone has periodontal disease, the gum tissue pulls away from the tooth. As the disease worsens, the tissue and bone that support the tooth are destroyed. Over time, teeth may fall out or need to be removed. Treating periodontal disease in the early stages can help prevent tooth loss.
